Week 13B Developing Online Advertising
First I made a mock ad for my own profile that I abandoned a few years ago. I liked this experiment because it gave me insight on what it would look like if I strategized and had a goal on what the purpose of my profile was for. Prior to abandoning it, I was reporting and making video content about various things I found interesting. I truly didn't have anything in particular that I was genuinely passionate about. In this experiment I went in with the thought like what if I came back as a journalist of some sort but more in a blog format regarding issues of disability rights. Because I've become passionate about this topic in the last few years because of my daughter, this is something I could stand by and feel strongly about. It's bigger than me. I'd turn my profile into highlighting certain topics and stories that are relevant to the disabled community. I'd want my profile to provide information to people and empower people. There is nothing that makes me more happy than to see people in the disabled community get the proper treatment and resources they deserve. I believe a misconception is that disabled people are just handed benefits simply based on their diagnosis. That is so far from the truth. It is sad the mistreatment that happens to our most vulnerable members of society. It gave me an idea that if I were to revive my page and presence on Instagram, I would want to be known for standing up for disabled people. I created a sample ad to practice selecting the topics to target my audience. It also brought to my attention how far I've come with what I truly believe in. Looking back at this old picture where I went to interview some politicians at a Hanukkah ceremony, I really didn't have a purpose in my work. I was going through the motions, which was okay at the time because I just wanted to continue working in hopes that something would stand out to me and I'd become passionate about it and gain direction. Well, that really didn't happen until some seemingly unlucky things happened to me and through that I found a new path of what I believed in. I think in the future I carry the same love of shining light on the truth, mixed with my own love for disabled people like my daughter. I think there is potential for me to reinvent my old page.
Another ad I made was for Carly's Cause Facebook page. The ad auto generated with the headline of a non profit benefitting special needs children. I added to that "& their caregivers".. I think there are a lot of non profit charities that benefit special needs children, but what we need to promote is that we are offering a support group for the parents and caregivers of those special needs children. So much emphasis goes on the special needs children but what is often forgotten is the mental health and well being of the people who care for those children. Many parents are overwhelmed and isolated and receive little to no help. There was a wonderful documentary called "Unseen" and it described the lives of parents who cared for disabled children. They felt alone and invisible and saw their own health and wellness decline due to the sacrifices they had to make for their children. It highlights that the system is barely equipped to provide for the disabled children let alone even care about the parents. But without the parents and caregivers, who will care for these children? It's a serious issue. If you have disabled children who need to be cared for life and you have parents who are suffering with their health and stress and not living a full life, these children often times end up in state facilities which is not only tragic for the child but it becomes more responsibility of the government. If there were only ways to support the parents and allow them to live full lives and care for their children it would make the world a better place and makes more sense even from a financial point. Anyways, as a parent myself to a disabled child, I especially pay attention to non profit organizations that help the caregivers like myself. This is why I was drawn to the non profit I work with today. Sandi, the owner, runs a parent support group. I joined because of that alone because I was and still am at times worried about my mental health and well being while raising my child. I don't need to join any more charities to benefit the children any more than I already am. It's me who is suffering because I put everything towards my daughter at the expense of my health and wellbeing. I know many parents can relate, so it's important we let people know we support the caregivers. I think an Ad that states this along with a better visual, could draw in more likes and help us get to 1,000.
The last ad I made was just to see what an ad would look like for my mock business for this class. My business is a Zen Meditation and wellness company that focuses on mental health and offers classes and retreats. I think in our stressful world, people are looking for peace and healing. People can scroll through serene images and escape little moments of stress in their lives. But what my business offers is taking that one step further. Not only are you looking at the most peaceful pictures, but you are invited to immerse yourself in this feeling through activities offered through my business. To sign up for a retreat and imagine feeling this sense of peace for days instead of just one moment while you are scrolling in the midst of your busy life. My goal was for people to come to my page and increase my likes first. My goal is for people to come to my page and then have great posts on my feed that attracts people to like my page and stay to find out what it's all about and how they can benefit.
