Week 3 Part A: Aesthetics, Design and Branding

The two websites I thought did a poor job:

Best-electronics-ca.com and gatesnfences.com

Starting with Best electronics.  The moment I opened up the link my eyes were overloaded with bright bold busy letters and it made my head hurt looking at it.  Potential problems with visitors is getting a headache, not being able to clearly see what is on the screen, and getting frustrated and just leaving.  They clearly did not have the end user in mind.  It was not easy to look at.

Next with gatesnfences.com The problems I saw as a visitor is that it is so busy I'm immediately overwhelmed with font.  It's busy and confusing.  The design is not user friendly as my eyes have to search and squint to see what I'm looking at.  This website may get annoying and the user may leave.  They might've thought the design was organized well into categories but it is way to busy and they need to put things in categories so its not all on the front page.

The two websites I thought did an excellent job were apple and artcenter.com

Apple, just like their packaging, is a smooth, seamless simple design.  The design is so good with their latest model iphone on the front page, it is hard not to click on it and get sucked in.  I got distracted after I clicked on it and am amazed at how the design of things can give you a feeling and make you want something that you didn't know you needed. After clicking on the button to see a potential color that I would want, it sucks you in to check and see what the price is if I were to buy one.  Even though I didn't buy it, it planted a seed of interest and want in my mind.  I want the new iphone in purple now. 

Artcenter.com did a wonderful job keeping their information centered and choosing simple black background.  I like that when I scrolled down they have the categories in buttons, easy to read and click on.  The ease of use made things nice and I felt like it was a website I could sit and browse upcoming events without feeling tired from it.  The calendar of events was a little busy but it was organized and you could clearly see what was happening each day.
